Dr. Joanne Fernandez-Lopez is a dedicated veterinary professional with a comprehensive background in small animal medicine, exotic animal care, and veterinary wellness. Graduating with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University in 2014, Dr. Fernandez-Lopez brings a wealth of specialized knowledge spanning small animal, avian, and exotic animal health.
Her veterinary experience includes advanced training in diverse areas such as internal medicine, surgery, emergency care, telemedicine, and specialized species medicine. During her professional journey, she has worked extensively with various animal populations, from companion animals to exotic species.
Her background includes internships at the Florida Veterinary Referral Center, where she rotated through critical medical specialties, and previous work at Banfield Pet Hospital, offering comprehensive general practice services. Dr. Fernandez-Lopez's professional interests are focused on canine and feline medicine, with additional experience in emergency medicine.
Throughout her career, she has been passionate about animal health, preventive care, and emergency work. Her externships at the Carolina Raptor Center and Georgia Sea Turtle Hospital further reflect her versatility and deep commitment to animal health across multiple species.
With licenses in Florida, Puerto Rico, and USDA APHIS, Dr. Fernandez-Lopez brings a comprehensive, compassionate approach to animal care. At ABCs Puppy Zs, she serves as a critical veterinary consultant and health policy adviser, helping develop rigorous health standards and clinical protocols that support the highest quality of care for breeding programs.
Her role involves helping craft health guidelines, supporting health screening standards, and establishing best practices that prioritize the well-being of both parent dogs and puppies. She also contributes to educational content that helps new puppy owners better understand health, nutrition, and responsible care.
